New Kids on the Block

Congratulations to Carnahan Hall as they join the arts community here in Lafayette! The ribbon cutting ceremony takes place this afternoon at 3:30 pm. You must have obtained a physical ticket to attend the ceremony.

With Carnahan Hall joining the TAF family, we decided to feature some of our new member organizations that have been added this year. Be sure  to show them your support!

Art Cenacle

Art Cenacle is a local group of artists in Lafayette who meet regularly to discuss art related topics and critique each others' works. Their work will be featured in our newest exhibition here at TAF. The exhibit is titled "Expression Unlimited: An Exhibition of Self Portraits". In a recent Journal & Courier interview, the group says that "the artists gave each other the assignment to do a self-portrait, whether or not they felt experienced or comfortable enough to do it. With so many personalities and interpretations, their exhibit is disorienting in a good way."

Be sure to stop by and check out their work! The exhibit will be open to the public from August 15th to September 12th and a reception will be held tonight from 6-8 pm in the TAF Lobby. Be sure to stop by!

Lafayette Writer's Studio

Lafayette Writers' Studio is a place where writers can learn more about the art and craft of writing in a supportive environment. Whether you have a particular writing project in mind or are simply interested in learning more about the form, the Lafayette Writers' Studio will provide instruction and encouragement to develop your unique voice and help you become the writer you would like to be.

Classes are taught by Melissa Fraterrigo. Melissa taught high school English, but realized that her dream was to be a writer. She went on to receive her MFA and publish her first collection of short stories in 2006. Besides teaching with the Lafayette Writers' Studio, she is currently working on a writing project titled, "Teensy's Daughter". Her classes have helped aspiring writers to make their dreams possible.

"Taking a writing class was very outside of my comfort zone and writing my memoir seemed only like a dream. Yet Melissa helped me to see that anyone who writes is a writer. With Melissa's encouragement, writing exercises, and feedback, I am thrilled to say my once far fetched dream is now a reality!"

Make your writing dreams come true as well! There are several classes being offered in the fall! All classes will be offered at MatchBOX Coworking Studio in Lafayette.  Click here to register for a class today!

Special Hands School of Art

The Special Hands School of Art is designed for students with special needs who have an interest in the arts! The school was initiated by special needs advocate Lisa Halsema and art instructor Andrea Remer. The creation of the program was prompted by cuts to arts programs in schools, which had a negative impact on special needs programs for students . As a result, Remer and Halsema decided to create their own school that offered available arts programs for kids.

The school is currently offering summer workshops and classes. Volunteer positions are also available!

Carnahan Hall

LAF Arts Carnahan Hall_01.jpg

Carnahan Hall strives to bring more live entertainment and arts related events to downtown Lafayette. The venue opened in March and has since hosted paint parties, musicians, and was recently a part of TAF's Gallery Walk. Owners Seema Choudhary and John Warner have plenty of ideas for the new venue. Some include film screenings, video game competitions, stand up comedy, and more rising local band performances.

Future fall events include a tentative DJ night by Purdue students in September and October will feature the Melissa Aldana and Cash trio as part of Purdue Convocations.

Stay up-to-date with the new venue by visiting their website and Facebook page

Some other new member organizations that have joined TAF this year are listed below:

2 Chic Art Gallery
Eastside 9
Wabash Landing 9
Heartland Heritage, INC
WBAA Public Radio from Purdue
Figure Drawing Guild

We are so happy to support all of our member organizations! TAF looks forward to our new members' future contributions to the arts in Greater Lafayette.
