A Weekend at the Theatre: Shakespeare and Rock n' Roll

Have any plans this weekend? How about an outing to the theatre? Local theatre productions are playing in Kokomo and the Greater Lafayette area.



Kokomo Civic Theatre will perform the classic, 1960s Broadway musical Bye, Bye Birdie at IUK in Haven’s Auditorium this weekend. The story of the famous rock and roll singer, Conrad Birdie, is accompanied by memorable songs such as “Put on a Happy Face”, “A Lot of Livin’ to Do”, “Kids”, “Rosie”, and more!  It is a great musical for families and friends to enjoy.Performance times are Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. Adult tickets are $15, Senior Citizen tickets are $14, and Student tickets (through college) are $10. Want to hear more oldies this weekend? Heartland Dinner Theatre Productions presents "The Marvelous Wonderettes" at the Columbia Ballroom in Downtown Lafayette. The production opens May 30th and will  run until June 8th. It's a story about a group of gal pals that includes popular hits from the 1950s and 1960s such as "Lollipop", "Heatwave", and "Respect".  Join for an evening of toe-tapping fun! Friday and Saturday performances are at 6:30 pm and Sunday performances are at  2 pm. Ticket prices range from $20-$40. Purchase your tickets here.






Perhaps you would like to spend an evening with the Bard? The Stone Soup Shakespeare Touring Company, a professional group of Shakespearean actors and actresses, will perform the romantic comedy "As You Like It" with puppetry, music, and laughter! The performance will take place at the Tippecanoe Outdoor Amphitheatre on Friday, May 30 at 6:30. The play follows the story of the love struck Rosalind who disguises herself as a man to win the affections of her one true love, Orlando. All kinds of fun in the forest follows. Admission is FREE! Bring a blanket or lawn chair and your own picnic basket as you relax and enjoy the show. The group will also be collecting non-perishable food donations for Food Finders.

Lafayette Citizens Band 2014 Summer Season Has Begun!



The Lafayette Citizens Band kicked off their summer season with their annual Memorial Day Concert at Riehle Plaza in downtown Lafayette. Veterans, service members, and their families joined the festivities while listening to patriotic anthems such as “America the Beautiful” and the “Armed Forces Medley”.


Every Thursday through August 7th (except July 4th and Labor Day), the band will be playing at Riehle Plaza at 7:30. Bring lawn chairs, friends, and family to enjoy music ranging from popular hits to classical selections. All concerts are free and open to the general public.

This Thursday on May 29th at 7:30, the band will be performing a special “High School Night” concert alongside students and band directors from local high schools. For more information on upcoming events, please visit the LCB's website and Facebook page!
