Theatre

Can't afford a trip to Broadway this month? Enjoy an evening of theatre near you! Here are some productions happening across Greater Lafayette!

Frankfort

Frankfort's Red Barn Theatre is featuring several plays this summer that involve thrills, laughs, and puppetry!

The theatre is currently playing "Anybody for Murder?" which runs until July 13th. The play revolves around a group of odd characters who each plan to kill each other for money.

From July 16th-July 27th, the Red Barn theatre will premiere the romantic comedy, "Breaking and Entering".  A charming con man breaks into what he thinks is an empty apartment—only to find a mysterious woman waiting for him.  Plot twists, mistaken identities, and interesting dialogue highlight this very different romantic comedy.

To wrap up the summer season, the Tony-award winning Broadway musical, Avenue Q, will take the stage beginning July 31st! Join a group of 20 something puppets trying to make it in the Big Apple and find their place in the world as they are accompanied by show stopping tunes on their hilarious adventures. (This show may not be appropriate for children).

Hillsboro

Hillsboro's Myers Dinner Theatre presents a youth production of "Shrek The Musical". The show is based on the Oscar winning DreamWorks Animation film that started it all and brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to dazzling new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre - not a handsome prince - shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek. Full of all-new songs and great dancing, "Shrek The Musical" is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone! The show runs until July 26th.

the Greater Lafayette community during July 2014. “TMTA’s Pianos for the Street” will
place pianos in public areas in Lafayette and West Lafayette on July 11 and leave them
on site for the public’s enjoyment until July 28. We hope passersby will take the
opportunity to sit down and play a favorite tune. Maybe a few people will find their “inner
musician.” The goal of the project is to promote piano playing and provide live music for
public enjoyment. We want this to be a unique thank you gift to the greater Lafayette
area, which is so supportive of the arts.
