Art Exhibits

Lala Gallery and Studio
"Imaginative Machines" is the second solo show for Mike Swiam at LaLa, and his third solo exhibition in Lafayette. He has also exhibited in group shows with the Greater Lafayette Clay Guild, and other LaLa Studio artists. A Subaru worker by day and a clay carving sculptor in his free time, Swaim has created 17 gear inspired sculptures in the series that fool the eye with wing nuts, bolts, and gear teeth. See the whole exhibit online at LaLaGallery.com. Closing Reception is July 12th 6-10PM.
Art Museum of Greater Lafayette
Wild Things by Michel Keck and Linda Mitchell is showing now until September 7th in the Mcdonald Gallery.

This exciting exhibition features fantasy artwork by Michel Keck and Linda Mitchell.   Museum Curator, Michael Crowthers has invited the artists and will help create a very unique atmosphere in the museum.  Each artist’s works evoke images from an imaginative and surreal world.  These works are both visually stimulating and extremely well executed.  Wild Things will entice families and art lovers alike by creating another world for viewers to step into at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette.  Animals of all shapes, sizes, and color will be installed and many summer family programs are being planned to attract even larger attendance.  Your sponsorship will be recognized by many members of the community.  Please join us in discovering all of the wild things that inhabit the galleries.
Natural Disaster Color by Petronio Bendito is showing now until September 7th in the Mcdonald Gallery.

For the past ten years Petronio Bendito has focused on the examination of color.  For this series of mid and large-scale prints he conducted color studies in which he devised color schemes based on natural disasters such as the Haiti earthquake, landslides in Brazil and the tsunami in Japan.  The works function as an interface that acknowledges the fragility of humankind and honors humanity in a subliminal way.  Hope, remembrance, and resilience emerge as Mr. Bendito transposes depictions of chaos and despair into patterns of order and beauty.  Petronio is an Associate Professor of Art and Design in the Purdue University Department of Visual and Performing Arts.
Art Smart: New Vistas is showing now until December 28th.

ArtSmart: New Vistas is meant to promote critical thinking and foster the concepts of connoisseurship and esthetic discovery.  The audience is provided with the opportunity not only to view original works of art, but also to compare and contrast each pair of works.  The exhibit presents images of Indiana's past, its enduring beauty, creative artists and sense of cultural aesthetic.  In addition, the technical properties of different art media can be compared.

Purdue Gallery Exhibits
The Living Graphic Novel Exhibit is showing now until June 14 at the Fountain Gallery in Lafayette.
Living Graphic Novel
Living Graphic Novel is a collaborative arts program presented by Purdue Galleries & Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, which offers the opportunity for participants to write, illustrate and appear in short stories in the style of graphic novels/comic books. For the past two years, the LGN project has been supported in part by Arts Education in American Communities grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. This exhibition documents the individual projects accomplished during that period.
The Lonsford Impressions is showing now until June 14 at Ringel Gallery at Purdue University.
Global Matrix_Johnson
Installments of Global Matrix: an International Print Exhibition have been presented by the Purdue University Galleries in 2002, 2007 and 2012 as traveling exhibitions in the U.S. Global Matrix exhibits have featured a total of 225 works representing 180 individual artists from 31 countries around the world and the exhibits have traveled to a total of 15 venues.
